NEW PALTZ MID-CENTURY MODERN
Located at the base of the Shawangunk Mountains right outside of New Paltz, NY, this full renovation of an architect-designed 1970’s home is tucked into the woods along a stone ridge. To maintain a focus on the lush nature outside the home’s ample windows, we worked with Jeff Jordan Architects to update this gorgeous, but tired home.
To reflect the landscape outside the windows and to honor the home’s mid-century design, we utilized a calming material palette of white oak, natural textile, stone, and iron. Outdated space planning required reorganization to accommodate a primary suite and a workshop for the homeowners to build crafts with their children. Another challenge was the inefficient, 1970’s heating. To ensure that we could fit radiant heat on the lower level, we had to use a thin, large-format tile to since we couldn’t squeak out the height for hardwood flooring. We love engaging in clever space planning within an existing footprint. It is always a challenge, but very rewarding.
